Villanova travels to Syracuse, both entering tomorrows match-up with even records of 11-0. The former Big East foes have equally posted 7 home, 1 road, and 3 neutral site victories. C.J. Fair and Syracuse will need to step up on defense; as opponents are shooting 47.1% from the field so far this season. Villanova’s explosive offense this season is averaging 82.5 ppg and will be tough to slow down. Jim Boeheim’s famous 2-3 zone will have its work cut out as Villanova is certainly used to the zone defense of Syracuse. The experience from Junior forward JayVaughn Pinkston (26.4 min/game), Senior guard James Bell (28.7 min/game), and Junior guard Darrun Hilliard (28.1 min/game) should improve what the wildcats are able to do against the orangemen’s zone as they have seen it for the past 3 years. I personally feel that Villanova will eventually wear out Syracuse as they throw 9 players, averaging more than 10 minutes a game, at them. Syracuse will need a big game from Senior forward C.J. Fair and Junior forward Rakeem Christmas if they stand a chance to remain unbeaten. This will be an exciting game to watch and will eventually leave one team falling from the ranks of the unbeatens.
The 2013-2014 season is underway, and so far the season has been full of excitement. Many top teams have competed against each other, each one vying for a spot in the big dance. Since conference play hasn’t started in most leagues, I have been compiling a consideration list of teams who, as of now, have a .600 or better winning percentage for the season. With that said, it has left me with 135 teams to consider plus three teams with sub .600 records who are currently leading their conference. Exciting teams to watch as conference play starts to get under way are the 8 teams that are currently undefeated: #1 Arizona, #2 Syracuse, #3 Ohio State, #4 Wisconsin, #10 Wichita State, #12 Oregon, #14 Iowa State, and a surprising Toledo (ranked out of the AP top 25, but receiving votes placing them at #30).Keep an eye on these teams as the season progresses. Over the next 8 days I will be posting a feature on each of these teams. As the tournament approaches I will post my first bracket on January 13 with weekly updates until March 3, and then daily updates until Selection Sunday on March 16.
