Morning Roundup 11/29

The Big Ten / ACC challenge stole the show yesterday in the world of college basketball. Coming into the day the Big Ten and ACC each were tied at four games with six games remaining to decide the ultimate winner. To start off the night Rutgers traveled down to Coral Gables to shock Miami as the Scarlet Knights improve to 4-1 on the season with a signature road win that they rarely have.

Syracuse went into #16 Ohio State and with Frank Howard back on the court they looked to be a different team then they were in New York as they defeated the Buckeyes. #4 Virginia was tested on the road at #24 Maryland but in the end the Cavaliers were too much as they only turned the ball over twice and were solid on the defensive side of the ball.

Northwestern held off Georgia Tech while #7 Michigan showed that they are truly a National Title contender as they blew out #11 North Carolina at home. #19 Purdue looked to be stealing a win on the road at #15 Florida State but sloppy play down the stretch for both teams allowed Florida State to come back while Trent Forrest hit a jumper with :05 remaining to propel the Seminoles to a one point victory.

#6 Tennessee, #9 Auburn, and #10 Kentucky all cruised to easy wins at home. Old Dominion was able to get by VCU and Ole Miss held off San Diego. Illinois State finally got on the right track; beating BYU at home in OT, while Saint Mary’s fell to UC Irvine at home. Irvine now has road wins at Saint Mary’s and Texas A&M on the season and could be a team to watch in March.
